CGV and Dolby Laboratories Committed to Significantly Expand Dolby Cinema Presence in China

CGV Cinema Line, the largest multiplex cinema chain in Korea and Dolby Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE: DLB) today announced plans to open 30 Dolby Cinema™ locations in China by the end of 2021.

CGV, a global cinema player looking to expand its footprint in China, is partnering with Dolby to extend amazing movie-going experiences to their customers. Dolby Cinema is a premium cinema offering that combines spectacular image and sound technologies with an inspired design to deliver a completely captivating experience.

In just over one year, more than 60 movies have been released or confirmed to be released in Dolby Vision™ and Dolby Atmos® for Dolby Cinema locations in China, including 16 Chinese local language titles.

Upcoming Dolby Cinema titles confirmed to be released in China include Sony Pictures’ Blade Runner 2049 (China release date October 27, 2017); Murder On The Orient Express (China release date November 10, 2017);  Warner Bros. Pictures’ Justice League (China release dateNovember 17, 2017); and Director Kaige Chen’s Legend Of The Demon Cat (China release date December 22, 2017).

Dolby Cinema enables richer and more action-packed storytelling through Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. The Dolby Vision projection system, which uses state-of-the-art optics and image processing, delivers high dynamic range with enhanced color technology and a contrast ratio that far exceeds that of any other image technology on the market today. The result is a dramatically different viewing experience that presents strikingly vivid and realistic images, making viewers feel like they are inside the movie’s world. The Dolby Vision laser projection system was co-developed with Christie®, which supplies, installs, and services all the projector systems, which can only be experienced at Dolby Cinema locations.

Dolby Cinema also includes Dolby Atmos sound technology, which moves audio around the theatre, even overhead, with amazing richness and depth. The combination of Dolby technologies with the design and comfort of the Dolby Cinema makes audiences feel closer to the onscreen action than ever before.
