GLOBAL: ‘Lucy’ Takes Another $25M Overseas, Crosses $350M Worldwide; ‘Guardians’ Flies Above $600M

Russia led the latest frame as the film continues to thrive in South Korea ($2.9M Weekend / $15.4M Cume) and the UK ($1.3M Weekend, $19.7M Cume). The film has grossed $354.5 million worldwide.

Sex Tape $11.5 million from 52 markets over the weekend, largely due to its #1 premiere in Germany. The raunchy comedy opened to $4.5 million from 628 screens in Germany, on par with Bad Teacher and 89% ahead of We’re the Millers. The film has grossed $61 million overseas and $99.2 million worldwide. The film will finally hit the $100 million global mark in the coming days.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles put up a $10.5 million weekend from 49 territories, reaching a $138.9 million overseas cume. A $6.3 million debut from 254 locations in Australia was more than enough for a #1 finish in the market, as the film nearly doubled the opening weekend of The Smurfs in Australia. The latest Turtles has grossed $319.9 million globally with major markets like Italy, Germany, Spain, China, and Japan still left on the release schedule.

Divergent opened in China, taking a 7-day gross of $10 million from 2,454 screens. The film finished its first week at #5 in the country’s top ten chart. China is the last overseas stop on Divergent‘s schedule. The film has grossed a total of $135.4 million outside of North America and $286.3 million worldwide.

Hercules brought in $9.6 million from 45 territories, lifting its overseas total to $138.5 million. The film has grossed $210.2 million worldwide with China and Japan still to come in late October.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes claimed $9.5 million from 18 markets, bringing its overseas haul up to $464 million. The film has grossed $670.8 million worldwide with Japan, its final remaining market, scheduled for release on Friday.

Guardians of the Galaxy crossed the $600 million global mark, as both overseas and North American figures near an even 50/50 split. The latest Marvel hit scored a $9.3 million weekend overseas, leading to a $305.6 million cume outside of North America and $611.5 million global cume. Top markets include the UK ($44.7m), Russia ($37.3M) and Australia ($22.3M) with China and Italy remaining on the schedule. The film opened in Japan over the weekend, where it took $2.1 million from its first two days.

The Maze Runner is off to an $8.3 million start from its first 5 markets overseas. The film claimed the top spot in all its markets and registered grosses above the opening of Divergent across all respective markets. Mexico ($2.6M), Taiwan ($2.2M), and Malaysia ($1.9M) are the early leaders ahead of the film’s next expansion.

Into the Storm opened to a $7.6 million haul in China en route to a $14.2 million weekend from 46 markets. The natural disaster film has grossed $87.6 million overseas and $133.4 million globally.

The Boxtrolls took a $5.7 million start from its first 8 territories overseas. A #1 debut in the UK with $3.4 million (including last weekend’s previews) impressed, while a #2 bow in Mexico with $1.8 million from 605 dates also helped establish the new animated film abroad. The Boxtrolls will expand to 49 additional territories over the next couple of months/

Fox International’s Finding Fanny took a strong debut from India, grossing $4.3 million to establish a commanding lead in the country. The film opened day-and-date in the UK and US, with the two markets combining to help the film reach a $5 million global debut.

Deliver Us from Evil delivered $4.8 million from 42 territories, reaching a $41.9 million overseas cume. The film opened in fourth place in Mexico with a $1.2 million bow. The horror flick has grossed $72.4 million worldwide.

If I Stay expanded to 13 smaller markets over the weekend, earning $3.2 million from a total of 31 territories. The film has grossed $15.6 million outside of North America and $60.5 million globally.

As Above/So Below expanded to 14 territories over the weekend, adding $3 million to its overseas haul. The horror flick has now grossed a total of $8.5 million from 32 territories and $27.6 million worldwide

The Fault in our Stars colleted $3 million from 12 markets to reach a $175.1 million cume overseas. The drama has grossed a total of $299.8 million worldwide and will cross $300 million global milestone early in the week.

Let’s be Cops caught another $2.5 million from 24 market, taking its overseas haul up to $22.3 million. The buddy cop comedy has grossed $95.2 million worldwide.

22 Jump Street took $2 million from 27 territories, reaching a $131.7 million overseas total and $322.5 million worldwide.

El Nino kept the top spot in Spain for a third consecutive weekend, grossing $2 million from 441 screens. The Spanish box office has been revived this year from strong performances by domestic films. El Nino has grossed a total of $13.4 million from three frames in Spain.

How to Train Your Dragon 2 added $1.6 million from 15 markets to reach a $435.5 million cume overseas and $610.7 million global total.

Dolphin Tale 2 opened in 7 markets overseas for a $1.3 million start to its run outside of North America. The film has grossed $17.8 million worldwide.

Transformers: Age of Extinction added $1 million from 21 markets as it winds down its overseas run. The film has grossed $835.5 million overseas and $1.08 billion worldwide.
