Jupiter Ascending hits the $100 million mark overseas after the Chinese debut nets $23.2 million, automatically making China the film’s top overseas destination after only three days in the market. The film grossed a total of $25.3 million from more than 7,600 screens in 53 markets. Russia is the second highest grossing market with $9 million, followed by the UK’s $6.6 million haul. The overseas cume is now at $107 million and $152 million globally. Jupiter Ascending expands to Japan on March 28.
Big Hero 6 has now been in release for 20 weekends and the film is still pulling significant numbers overseas. The animated feature earned $19.6 million from 25 territories over the weekend, including $15.9 million in China alone. Top markets include Japan ($75.1M), China ($40.8M), UK ($28.5M), Russia ($20.3M), and South Korea ($20.1M). Big Hero 6 has grossed $383.5 million overseas and $604.8 million worldwide.
Focus screened grossed $17.7 million from 6,200 screens in 49 markets. Mexico ($2.4M), Italy ($2.2M), and Australia ($2.1M) all opened in first place, while the UK ($2M Weekend, $6.5M Cume), and Russia ($1.6M Weekend, $6.3M Cume) lead the holdovers. Focus has grossed $37 million overseas and $71.5 million globally.
Fifty Shades of Grey put up $17.7 million across 59 territories in its fourth weekend overseas. Top markets include UK ($50.5M), Germany ($37.6M), France ($30.1M), Brazil ($27M), Italy ($22.1M), and Spain ($20.6M). The film has now grossed $371.3 million overseas and $527.7 million worldwide.
Kingsman: The Secret Service grossed $17 million from 6,373 screens in 67 markets. South Korea kept the top spot for the fourth consecutive weekend with a $4.5 million haul, only a 15% dip from its previous frame. Kingsman has grossed $150.8 million overseas and $248.8 million worldwide.
American Sniper crossed the $500 million mark worldwide this weekend. The film grossed $14.6 million from over 4,900 screens in 57 markets. The top markets include Italy ($23.1M), UK ($20.5M), France ($16.8M), and Australia ($15.1M). American Sniper has grossed a total of $163 million overseas and $500.2 million globally.
The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water soaked in $9.6 million from 6,676 locations in 51 territories. The film has grossed $110.4 million overseas and $259.3 million worldwide.
The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel welcomed $5.6 million from 1,402 screens in 9 markets. The film has now grossed $21 million overseas and $29.6 million globally with 57 markets left to open.
Birdman continues flying high overseas. The Best Picture winner earned $4.4 million from 2,349 screens in 39 markets. The film has grossed a total of $53.3 million overseas and $94.8 million worldwide.
Unfinished Business opened to $2.6 million from 1,712 screens in 15 markets. The UK is the top opener with $1.4 million from 415 screens. The US debut bumps the film’s day-and-date tally to $7.4 million.
The Theory of Everything grossed $2 million in 46 territories, reaching a $79.1 million cume overseas. The film has now grossed $114.6 million worldwide.
Seventh Son brought in $2 million from 16 territories for a total of $88.6 million overseas. The film has grossed $105.6 million globally.
