The Maze Runner is off to an $8.3 million start from its first 5 markets overseas. The film claimed the top spot in all its markets and registered grosses above the opening of Divergent across all respective markets. The film’s first batch of overseas markets are led by Mexico ($2.6M, 753 screens), Taiwan ($2.2M, 135 screens), and Malaysia ($1.9M, 270 screens) are the early leaders ahead of the film’s next expansion. The film will expand to 48 new markets, including North America, next weekend. Comparable title Divergent has grossed a total of $135.4 million overseas.
