Weekend Actuals: The Doctor Is In As ‘Doctor Strange’ Leads w/ $85.0M; ‘Trolls’ Strong w/ $46.5M; ‘Hacksaw Ridge’ Decent w/ $15.1M

American audiences must not have been eating an apple a day, because they couldn’t keep the doctor away this weekend, as the Disney superhero film Doctor Strange commanded the weekend box office with an $85.05 million debut. Fox and DreamWorks’ animated Trolls opened strong with $46.58 million, the best animated start since The Secret Life of Pets in July. And Lionsgate’s war drama Hacksaw Ridge had a debut about in line with expectations at $15.19 million, although that was less than many other war dramas in the past few years.
