Weekend Actuals: ‘Suicide Squad’ Doesn’t Die w/ $43.5M; ‘Sausage Party’ Eats Its Way To $34.2M; ‘Pete’s Dragon’ Opens To $21.5M

Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad held onto the top spot for a second straight weekend with $43.53 million, though plunging a steep 67.4 percent after bad reviews. Sony’s R-rated animated comedy Sausage Party opened in second place with $34.26 million. Disney’s Pete’s Dragon proved a rare miss for the studio during the record-breaking year with a third place $21.51 million opening. And Paramount’s Florence Foster Jenkins, though hardly projected to be a box office smash, started with an underwhelming $6.60 million to claim eighth place.
