Friday Report: Paramount’s Arrival kicked off with $1.45 million on Thursday night. That nearly triples the $500,000 earned by Bridge of Spies last year, while also topping The Accountant‘s $1.35 million and The Girl on the Train‘s $1.23 million.
Almost Christmas is off to a very fair start as well with $507,000 earned last night. By comparison, Boo! A Madea Halloween took in $860,000 just a few weeks ago.
Meanwhile, Shut In reportedly did not receive any screenings on Thursday night. For the weekend as a whole, Doctor Strange is expected to easily retain first place again on the heels of strong word of mouth. Trolls will also hold well as it looks to claim second place again — although a further breakout by Arrival could possibly challenge that.
We’ll have weekend projections based on official Friday estimates tomorrow morning.
