Pre-sales Point to Regal E-Walk 13 in Times Square Mirroring Triumph at Regal Union Square Stadium 14

Seoul, Korea and New York (May 4, 2016) – CJ 4DPLEX, an immersive theater technology featuring moving seats and environmental effects, opens in its second New York City theatre this weekend in partnership with Regal Cinemas. The newly upgraded auditorium is located at the Regal E-Walk 13 and is the fourth that the cinema technology company has opened in the United States – coming as 4DX screens see success at the box office.

In March, the first 4DX theatre installation in New York opened at the Regal Union Square Stadium 14 and since then has generated stellar numbers at the box office. This weekend Captain America: Civil War will open in 4DX in the United States.

“The first US location opened in Los Angeles at AEG-owned Regal Cinemas L.A. LIVE Stadium 14 with AEG in June 2014. Then last November we opened a screen in the Chicago area with Marcus. In March of this year, Union Square opened. The opening of our fourth screen in the United Sates is a big step for us. We are now stationed in the West, the Midwest and the East with all sites seeing great occupancy rates. We believe this will attract more US exhibitors who will seriously look at 4DX to help grow their business,” said Brandon Choi, COO, CJ 4DPLEX America.

CJ 4DPLEX’s 4DX technology enhances the onscreen visuals of action-packed blockbusters, enabling a completely immersive event that transcends the traditional cinema experience through special effects including motion-activated seats, wind, fog, rain, lighting, vibrations and scents. The result is that 4DX, going beyond 3D, adds visual, aural, olfactory and tactile dimensions to the film-viewing experience, and lends itself perfectly to high-energy movies.

During its first year, the 104-seat Regal LA Live 4DX Auditorium generated $1.7 million in revenue, triple the total from the previous year. Attendance also doubled during the same period, and the theatre has moved up nearly 40 spots in overall U.S. box office rankings. 4DX opened its second screen in Gurnee, IL outside Chicago late last year.

A sampling of the blockbuster movies that have already screened in 4DX theatres include Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Furious 7, Mad Max: Fury Road, Jurassic World and San Andreas.

There are now more than 32,000 4DX seats operating in 240 theatres in 37 countries – opening on approximately one new screen every two weeks as theatres recognize the power of the format. By the end of 2016, 4DX aims to be in over 400 theaters worldwide.
