“Miss Peregrine” is currently pacing ahead of the young adult film adaptations, “The Maze Runner” and “Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials” at the same point in Fandango’s sales cycle. Also this weekend, Mark Wahlberg’s “Deepwater Horizon” is outselling Wahlberg’s “Two Guns” and the seagoing thriller, “The Finest Hours,” in Fandango’s advance sales.
“’Miss Peregrine’ is working its magic on audiences looking for supernatural adventure,” says Fandango Managing Editor Erik Davis. “Moviegoers have always loved the freakishly imaginative world of Tim Burton, particularly when he brings his unique style to a beloved story like ‘Peregrine.” With the Halloween season upon us, film fans are on the hunt for these kinds of delightfully ghoulish tales.”
Also in limited release this weekend is the Rachel Weisz drama, “Denial.” Fandango has the exclusive featurette on the film here.
Known for having its finger on the pulse of moviegoers, Fandango’s movie buzz indicator, Fanticipation, provides statistical insight into the movies fans are planning to see in a given weekend. Fanticipation scores (based on a 1 to 100-point scale) are calculated via an algorithm of Fandango’s advance ticket sales, website and mobile traffic, and social media engagement. Fanticipation is not intended as a forecast of the weekend box office; it is a snapshot of movie fan sentiment. Fandango is the ultimate digital network for all things movies, reaching more than 60 million unique visitors per month across its portfolio of digital properties, according to comScore.
