PRESS RELEASE
Lafayette, IN – June 27, 2017
GQT to Bring the IMAX Experience and All-New Theater in Lafayette, Goodrich Quality Theaters (GQT) Inc., headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is excited to announce plans that guests can soon enjoy the world’s most immersive cinematic experience when the IMAX® theater opens in December 2018 for the big holiday features. The IMAXtheater will be built on the existing property where the Eastside 9 sits at 300 Farabee Drive North in Lafayette, IN. The IMAX will be custom-designed for use in a new 11-screen theater. The Eastside 9 will be demolished in early January to make way for the construction of Quality 11 IMAX. Groundbreaking for the new 40,000+ sq. ft. multiplex will start soon after then.
The IMAX at the all-new Quality 11 IMAX will offer moviegoers a truly immersive cinematic experience, allowing them to enjoy the biggest blockbusters like never before. IMAX’s cutting-edge projection system, which delivers crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX’s customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.
The IMAX® screen will span 75 ft. wide featuring nearly 300 comfortable, powered recliners, the first ground-up constructed IMAX® auditorium in Indiana to have all recliners. Quality 11 IMAX will also feature GQT’s premium large format auditorium, called GDX® (Giant Digital Experience). This GDX® screen will feature a 55 ft. wide screen showcasing floor-to-ceiling viewing powered by Dolby Atmos™ multi-dimensional sound. In addition, all 11 auditoriums will feature state-of-the-art digital projection and sound with reserved ticketing for over 1,200 recliners.
The new theater will also feature a “Screen Taps,” belly up bar giving moviegoers (21+) an alternative to the traditional beverages offered at the concessions stand. Moviegoers can order beer, wine, and select mixed drinks to take into their movie. An expanded concessions menu will include new hot food offerings at the concession stand. Moviegoers will also be able to refill their own sodas at a self-serve refill station.
“Our theaters have been in Lafayette for the past 27 years, and we are really excited to bring The IMAX Experience to Lafayette and surrounding communities,” says Martin Betz, Chief Operating Officer, Goodrich Quality Theaters. “In addition to the 75 ft. IMAX screen, the new screen sizes range from 30 ft. to 55 ft. wide. To give perspective, our largest screen currently in Lafayette is a bit more than 40 ft. with most screens being 25 ft. or less,” explains Betz. “We’re building a state of the art complex with huge screens, comfortable recliners and amazing sound,” says Betz.
Also coming to the market this fall, Lafayette 7 will be receiving a seating upgrade with recliner seating starting in September 2017. Lafayette 7 will be closed for 6-8 weeks to reseat all auditoriums with powered recliners and will re-open by Thanksgiving 2017.
GQT also owns Wabash Landing 9 in West Lafayette, which underwent all new seating and a lobby remodel in November 2016.
