Sony’s Fury took in $2.36 million on Monday to lead the daily box office for a fourth consecutive day. The David Ayer directed World War II film starring Brad Pitt was down 59 percent from Sunday’s performance, which represented the day’s strongest daily percentage hold among wide releases. Fury has grossed $26.06 million through four days of release. That is on the lower end of pre-release expectations and places the film 10 percent ahead of the $23.63 million four-day start of Sony’s The Monuments Men earlier this year (which fell 70 percent on its first Monday to gross $1.62 million).
Fox’s Gone Girl placed in second with $1.45 million. The critically acclaimed David Fincher directed film starring Ben Affleck was down 65 percent from Sunday and down 63 percent from last Monday’s inflated Columbus Day performance. Gone Girl has grossed a very impressive $108.23 million in 18 days. That places the film 76 percent ahead of the $61.36 million 18-day take of 2012’s Argo.
Fellow Fox release The Book of Life claimed third place with $0.840 million. The modestly budgeted 3D computer animated film fell 84 percent from Monday. The Book of Life has grossed $17.85 million in its first four days. The film continues to perform in line with expectations and very similarly to The Boxtrolls out of the gate, which grossed $18.01 million during its first four days.
Dracula Untold followed closely behind in fourth with $0.827 million. Universal’s action horror film starring Luke Evans was down 69 percent from Sunday and also down 69 percent from last Monday. Dracula Untold has grossed a stronger than expected $41.66 million in eleven days, but is now displaying signs of significant front-loading.
Warner’s The Judge rounded out Monday’s top five with $0.686 million. The Robert Downey Jr. led drama fell 64 percent from Sunday and 63 percent from last Monday. The Judge continues to perform towards the lower end of its modest expectations with an eleven-day take of $27.51 million.
Relativity’s The Best of Me followed closely behind in sixth with $0.677 million. The Nicholas Sparks adaptation starring Michelle Monaghan and James Marsden was down 67 percent from Sunday. The Best of Me is performing on the low end of its modest expectations with $10.68 million in four days and is also showing early signs of being front-loaded.
