Universal reports that Jurassic World added another $19.9 million on Wednesday, an expected 18 percent decline from Tuesday’s gross. That gives the blockbuster smash sequel a domestic total of $278.4 million through just six days of release, representing the biggest six-day total in history (topping Marvel’s The Avengers‘ $257.6 million six-day haul by 8 percent). Additionally, yesterday’s gross was the fourth best non-opening Wednesday in history, trailing only the first Wednesday grosses of Transformers ($29.1 million, second day of release), The Amazing Spider-Man ($23.3 million, second day of release), and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire ($20.8 million, sixth day of release). In terms of non-holiday and non-opening Wednesday grosses, Jurassic World now holds that record as well. On the all-time domestic chart, the film leaped another ten spots to 69th place all-time (between The Hangover‘s $277.3 million and Meet the Fockers‘ $279.3 million).
In second place, Spy took in $1.8 million on Wednesday for a 35 percent week-to-week drop. The latest Melissa McCarthy-Paul Feig collaboration has tallied $62.2 million through 13 days of release.
San Andreas claimed third place yesterday with $1.17 million, down 50 percent from last Wednesday. The disaster flick’s 20-day domestic haul is a strong $122.85 million.
Insidious Chapter 3 posted $0.93 million on Wednesday for a 44 percent decline from the same day last week. The horror sequel’s 13-day tally is $40.4 million.
Filling out the top five, Pitch Perfect 2 grossed another $0.76 million yesterday, down just 19 percent from last week. The comedy sequel’s 34-day haul is $173.44 million.
