Spy took in $3.74 million on Tuesday to lead the daily box office for a fourth straight day. The Melissa McCarthy led comedy from Fox was up a healthy 25 percent over Monday’s performance. Spy has grossed $35.83 million in five days. While Spy is having a respectable run thus far, it is also performing below expectations. In comparison to some of McCarthy’s previous efforts, Spy is running 10 percent behind the $39.88 million five-day start of 2013’s Identity Thief and 8 percent stronger than the $33.31 million five-day take of last year’s Tammy.

Warner’s San Andreas held steady in second place with $3.07 million. The Dwayne Johnson led 3D disaster film increased 16 percent over Monday and decreased 47 percent from last Tuesday. San Andreascontinues to exceed expectations with a strong twelve-day take of $104.19 million. That places the film 19 percent ahead of the $87.67 million twelve-day gross of 2013’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation and 21 percent behind the $132.19 million twelve-day gross of 2013’s World War Z.

Focus’ Insidious: Chapter 3 grossed $2.20 million to remain in third. On the heels of Monday’s strong daily percentage hold, Insidious: Chapter 3 was only up 1 percent over Monday. The third chapter of the low-budget horror franchise from Gramercy and Blumhouse Productions has grossed $27.08 million in five days. That is on the low end of expectations and places the film 4 percent behind the recent $28.12 million five-day start of Fox’s Poltergeist.

It was an extremely tight race for places four through seven on Monday, as fourth place and seventh place were separated by a slim $51,110 for the day.

Warner’s Mad Max: Fury Road was up one spot and 17 percent over Monday to move into fourth with $1.152 million. The critically acclaimed action film starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron was down 42 percent from last Tuesday. Thanks in part to continued solid holding power, Mad Max: Fury Road continues to perform on the high end of expectations with a 26-day take of $132.81 million.

Disney’s Tomorrowland was up two spots and 27 percent over Monday to round out Tuesday’s top five with $1.145 million. The pricy Brad Bird directed sci-fi film starring George Clooney decreased 32 percent from last Tuesday. The 19-day total for Tomorrowland stands at a soft $78.46 million.

Pitch Perfect 2 held steady in sixth place with $1.122 million. Universal’s successful musical comedy sequel starring Anna Kendrick was up 20 percent over Monday and down 35.5 percent from last Tuesday. Pitch Perfect 2 has grossed a significantly stronger than expected $162.91 million in 26 days.

Meanwhile, Warner’s Entourage was down three spots and a troubling 4 percent from Monday. While the theatrical version of the HBO comedy series likely took a larger hit from Game 3 of the NBA Finals than other wide releases on Tuesday, the film clearly continues to display significant front-loading nonetheless.Entourage has grossed a softer than expected $19.92 million in its first week of release and is running 31 percent behind the $28.79 million seven-day start of 2012’s The Dictator.
