Guardians of the Galaxy retained first place on Wednesday with a gross of $1.51 million, off 42.5 percent from the same day last week. That brings the Disney/Marvel flick’s domestic sum to $256.7 million and counting as it heads into Labor Day weekend. Guardians is now 12 percent ahead of the pace of Captain America: The Winter Soldier–which, along with The LEGO Movie‘s $257.75 million, it will overtake as the year’s top grosser before the end of Friday–and just 2 percent behind the pace of 2008’s original Iron Man.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles grabbed another $1.09 million yesterday for a 55 percent week-to-week drop. The reboot has earned $149.6 million domestically in its first 20 days, 21 percent more than 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.
If I Stay added $1.04 million yesterday, giving it $19.5 million in the bank through 6 days of release. The drama is currently pacing 43 percent ahead of the 6-day take of The Host and 23 percent behind The Time Traveler’s Wife.
Let’s Be Cops brought in $0.88 million on Wednesday for a 50 percent week-to-week decline. The comedy’s total haul stands at $48.3 million through 15 days, 28 percent less than Pineapple Express at the same point.
Relativity reports that The November Man posted $0.86 million in its first day of release Wednesday. By comparison, that’s 49 percent behind the $1.67 million pre-Labor Day Wednesday bow of The American in 2010 and 11 percent behind the $0.97 million Wednesday opening of 2011’s The Debt.
When the Game Stands Tall pulled $0.5 million yesterday to give it a 6-day cume of $10.1 million. The football drama is running 20 percent behind the pace of Draft Day.
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For took in $0.47 million yesterday, giving it a 6-day start of $8.2 million. Unfortunately, the sequel isn’t finding its feet as it trails last year’s Kick-Ass 2 by 53 percent through the same point.
