Disney’s Guardians of the Galaxy grossed $0.727 million on Thursday to remain in first place at the daily box office. The blockbuster sci-fi superhero adaptation from Marvel has now led the daily box office for 20 consecutive days. Guardians of the Galaxy was unchanged from Wednesday’s performance and down a very healthy 14 percent from last Thursday. It should be noted that percentage declines from last Thursday were soft in general for wide releases yesterday. Guardians of the Galaxy was the week’s top film with a weekly haul of $13.48 million. That was down 48 percent from the previous frame and brings the film to the verge of the $300 million domestic milestone with a 42-day take of $297.88 million.
Let’s Be Cops held steady in second place with $0.452 million. Fox’s low-budget action comedy increased 3 percent over Wednesday and was down an extremely slim 4 percent from last Thursday. Let’s Be Cops took third place for the week with $7.47 million. That represented a 38 percent decrease from the previous week and brings the film’s 30-day total to a very solid $68.67 million.
The November Man took in $0.398 million to remain in third. Relativity’s action thriller starring Pierce Brosnan was down 3 percent from Wednesday and down a healthy 20 percent from last Thursday. The November Man finished in fifth for the week with $6.08 million. That was down 49 percent from the previous week and brings the film’s 16-day total to $19.75 million.
Paramount’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles grossed $0.369 million to continue to claim fourth. The blockbuster franchise re-launch was unchanged from Wednesday and down 20 percent from last Thursday. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles placed in second for the week with $8.09 million. The film was down 54 percent from the previous frame and has grossed a very impressive $176.24 million in 35 days.
The Identical rounded out its disappointing first week of release with $129,924 on Thursday. The faith-based drama from Freestyle placed in twelfth for the week with a very soft $2.17 million in its first seven days and will obviously be fading away from theatres quickly.
