TheaterEars has announced that Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu will be the next film in their The Director’s Experience series, which lets big screen audiences hear director’s commentary synced to the movie in question. The Mandalorian and Grogu with director/co-writer/producer Jon Favreau’s commentary will begin June 5 at participating theaters through the TheaterEars app, with no premium ticket or additional fee required.

Star Wars fans are some of the most detail-obsessed audiences in the world, and Favreau is the rare filmmaker who can satisfy that curiosity,” said Dan Mangru, CEO of TheaterEars. “Hearing him explain a scene while you’re watching it—in the theater, in the moment—is a reason to go, and a reason to go again.”

“Star Wars has always been about the experience of sitting in a theater and being transported,” said Jon Favreau, director/co-writer/producer of Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu. “Getting to talk fans through these moments while they’re living them—what we were going for, what’s hiding in the frame—is something you just couldn’t do before. I’m thrilled to share it this way.”

TheaterEars pioneered the synchronized theatrical director’s commentary with Project Hail Mary (directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller)—the first of its kind—which drove repeat viewership and strong post opening weekend retention. To use it, moviegoers open the app, select their movie theater and showtime, download the audio, put in their earbuds, and the commentary syncs to the film at the theater. TheaterEars also delivers multilingual dubbed tracks and audio description.
