British cinema advertising company Pearl & Dean has released its predicted opening range for Avatar: Fire and Ash, which is releasing globally on December 19 from 20th Century Studios.
Per Pearl & Dean, Fire and Ash is expected to open to £9M to £12M (roughly $12M – $16M in USD) in the U.K./Ireland, leading to a total gross in that market of £60M to £70M (or $80M – $93M USD). A figure in that range would make it the highest-grossing 2025 release in the market, passing Warner Bros.’ A Minecraft Movie, with nearly £57M (or $79.5M USD).
Though Fire and Ash will face box office competition over the holiday period—notably from Wicked: For Good, which is still delivering big numbers into December in the U.K./Ireland—that is not expected to substantially alter its long-term box office receipts, as the Avatar franchise tends not to be front-loaded.
Premium formats, such as 3D, IMAX, and Dolby Atmos, will be major drivers in terms of U.K./Ireland box office. Premium formats are expected to be a major factor in driving revenue through February 2026, as moviegoers wait out holiday crowds and/or opt for repeat screenings to experience the film in multiple formats.
Avatar: The Way of Water is the 12th highest-grossing film of all time in the U.K./Ireland and the number three film worldwide.
