Pannonia Movie, in cooperation with Samsung Electronics and the Lurdy Ház Shopping Center, will install a next-generation Samsung Onyx LED display at Lurdy Cinema, as announced at CineEurope. A first for Hungary and Central and Eastern Europe, the Samsung Onyx room will accommodate over 250 guests. The auditorium will deliver an 11.5-meter-wide, 4K resolution Samsung Onyx LED screen with a Scope aspect ratio.
Unlike traditional projector-and-screen systems, the Samsung Onyx LED screen is self-emitting, for defined dark and bright tones with zero light leakage and true, deep blacks. The screen features 4K resolution, 100% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. HDR (High Dynamic Range) picture quality, enables a brightness of up to 300 nits – more than six times of the 48-nit output of traditional projectors. The technology also supports 3D screenings, offering an even more immersive experience.
Theater 10 at Lurdy Cinema will undergo a complete structural redesign during the renovation works in August. Alongside the specialized support structure for the LED wall, audience comfort will be elevated with new, VIP-tier motorized reclining chairs featuring adjustable backrests and footrests. As premium audio is essential to match perfect picture quality, the cinema network will also install a Dolby 7.1 sound system.
“We are immensely proud to be the first to bring this cutting-edge technology to Hungarian cinema fans,” said Attila Farkas, the CEO of Pannonia Movie Ltd. “Adopting the latest technological advancements has always played a key role in our company’s history. Our partnership with Samsung is a massive step forward, allowing us to offer our audience an exclusive and groundbreaking experience. We are confident in the success of this project and plan to implement similar upgrades across our other cinemas in the future.”
“Europe is a key market for cinema innovation and the introduction of Onyx marks a new chapter in our commitment to high-quality cinematic experiences,” added Alain Chamaillard, the head of cinema Europe at Samsung Electronics.
