Long Range Forecast – August 7, 2026

One Night Only | Universal

Domestic Opening Weekend Range: $8M – $12M

Anyone But You director Will Gluck follows up his 2023 sleeper hit with One Night Only, a high concept rom-com about a romance that blossoms between two strangers (played by Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner) on the one day single people are legally allowed to have sex. Anyone But You opened to an underwhelming $6M over Christmas weekend, subsequently riding a wave of strong word-of-mouth to a domestic cume of $88.3M. Audience goodwill from that picture should help give One Night Only a boost, though the ceiling for theatrically released rom-coms hasn’t exactly been high as of late: earlier this year, You, Me & Tuscany opened to $7.7M en route to an $18.7M total haul, while last August’s more arthouse-leaning The Roses went from a $6.2M opening to a $15.2M domestic total.

Super Troopers 3 | Searchlight Pictures / Disney

Domestic Opening Weekend Range: $6M – $9M

It’s been an eight-year hiatus from the big screen for the Millennial-era “Cops” satire Super Troopers, which debuted in 2021 and returned with a sequel in 2018. Super Troopers 2, which opened to $15.1M en route to a $30.6M domestic haul, was a substantially higher earner than the first film, which climbed to $18.4M from a $6.2M opening. Our forecasting panel does not, however, expect that upward trajectory to continue. Compared to other R-rated, early-aughts comedy franchises, tracking for Super Troopers 3 is shaping up to be less of a Scary Movie (2026)—which had the highest (no pun intended) opening of the franchise with a $54.3M debut last month—and more of a Jackass: Best and Last, which underperformed compared to previous franchise entries with an $8.4M opening,
