PRESS RELEASE –
Sacramento, Calif., USA – 30 March 2017 – Digital Cinema leader Barco and CMX, a subsidiary of Cinemex, the sixth largest cinema chain in the world, have partnered to equip the new CMX Theater at newly opened, $1 billion+ Brickell City Centre in Miami, Florida with Barco’s Smart Laser cinema projectors. When it opens in April, the cinema will deliver the region’s best movie presentation quality while operating at a significantly lower cost than traditional xenon-powered theaters.
Barco and Cinemex have a longstanding relationship resulting from the digital cinema conversion of 1,800 screens for the exhibitor’s theaters in Mexico in 2013. Since then, Barco has grown its market share of the Latin America cinema market to 80%, while Cinemex is ranked the sixth largest cinema chain in the world.
With more than 300 multiplexes in Mexico, Cinemex has just begun its expansion into the United States. The CMX Theater at Brickell will be the first site, to be followed by other locations all over the USA. The Brickell cinema features 10 auditoriums in a nearly 36,000 square foot multiplex.
Growing a successful cinema relationship
“We are excited to chart our international expansion course with Barco at our side,” comments Luis Castelazo, Director of CMX. “They have been an excellent, highly reliable cinema partner with the very best technology at the lowest TCO, enabling us to offer a high quality movie experience to our customers. Our Brickell City Centre cinema is one of the world’s all-laser theaters, providing an exceptional and unique entertainment experience.”
CMX selected the award-winning Barco DP2K-20CLP Smart Laser cinema projector to outfit its screens, in line with offering the best available Cinema experience at Brickell.
Best image quality for the lowest TCO
Smart Laser cinema projectors offer the most cost-effective value proposition for exhibitors desiring to bring laser benefits to every screen. Cinemex will be able to offer an even higher image quality in its mainstream auditoriums, thanks to superior contrast, brightness and color uniformity. Exhibitors can also reduce maintenance and simplify their operations, resulting in a low total cost of ownership. To date, Barco has installed more than 1,500 of these projectors around the world.
“We are honored to support CMX’s U.S. growth plans and applaud the company’s strong commitment to delighting its customers with the best moviegoing experience,” comments Ivan Cannau, Vice President Latin America for Barco. “In addition to elevating movie presentation quality, our Smart Laser projectors will help CMX to significantly reduce operating expenses and risk, as a flexible and future-proof solution.”
A prime destination for work, life and play
The new Brickell City Centre has brought a significant transformation to the local area, offering a vibrant, high-end work/live/play destination in downtown Miami. Spanning 9.1 acres, the 5.4 million square foot center comprises a 500,000 square foot open-air shopping center, two luxury condo towers, a five-star hotel, and class-A office buildings among other amenities.
Barco’s commitment to bringing innovation to Latin American cinema partners
Barco was a pioneer in bringing digital cinema to Latin America, and its relationship and strong support to partners as CMX goes back many years. This is yet another showcase of Barco’s commitment to enable Latin partners to bring innovation to the cinema world. Barco has always been a firm believer that Mexico and Latin America are a strategic frontier for its cinema technologies and experiences, and significantly scaled up its local infrastructure investments over the last decade based on its confidence in the region.
