Disney has announced 2028 release dates for the anticipated franchise titles Lilo & Stitch 2 and Incredibles 3. Lilo & Stitch 2 takes the place of the Untitled Disney film dated for May 26, 2028, while Incredibles 3 takes the place of the Untitled Pixar dated for June 16, 2028, news that newly appointed Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro made official at the company’s shareholders meeting.
Lilo & Stitch 2 is the sequel to 2025’s Lilo & Stitch, the live-action adaptation of the company’s 2002 animated adventure comedy. Lilo & Stitch led the 2025 Memorial Day frame, setting a new domestic box office record for the holiday weekend. The title went on to become the first Motion Picture Association (MPA) title of 2025 to cross the $1 billion mark at the global box office with a $423.7M domestic and $1.03 billion global total. The live-action remake held onto its number two domestic ranking for 2025 and came in 4th globally behind Disney’s Avatar: Fire and Ash, Zootopia 2, and China’s Ne Zha 2. There’s no indication at this time whether the plot of the new film will pull from the many direct-to-video sequels and tv series, or if the story will lead into a new direction. The release of Lilo & Stitch 2 coincides again with the Memorial Day weekend holiday in 2028.
Pixar’s long-dormant Incredibles franchise returns with a third installment a decade after Incredibles 2 generated $608.5M domestic and $1.2 billion global in 2018, figures which smashed the 2004 original’s take of $261.4M domestic and $631.6M globally. The previous entry in the franchise saw Mr. Incredible balancing life as Mr. Mom, while Elastigirl took on a new mission to save the world. Elemental filmmaker Peter Sohn is expected to direct, with two-time Oscar-winner Brad Bird (who wrote and directed The Incredibles) writing and producing. Pixar initially announced the development of Incredibles 3 at the 2024 D23 Expo.
