Monday Afternoon Update: Bad Santa 2 had its first taste of leading the Facebook charts this past week as its second trailer propelled it upwards a further 59,083 likes to 442,473 likes overall. Its first red band trailer back in August gave it an even bigger 69,610 like bump but it had to settle for second place on the week due to a new trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Bad Santa achieved bonafide cult status in the years after its 2003 release and joins My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, Barbershop: The Next Cut and Blair Witch as yet another 2016 sequel 10+ years in the making. The film has gained more than 200,000 likes since April when we started tracking it here at BoxOffice Pro.
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is on course for 850,000 likes prior to its release this upcoming weekend which lines it up nicely with Maze Runner‘s 898,312 likes on the eve of its 2014 release. Miss Peregrine looks to be one of the freshest films of September this year and a successful start is all but assured at this point as indicated by its prerelease buzz. We are currently predicting $33 million this upcoming weekend for the young adult adaptation.
The Accountant made its first appearance in the top 5 with a hefty 100% bump. Its 77,107 total likes appears to be on the light side but when you consider that its hitting the same demographic as Argo and Gone Girl which had 56,456 and 131,555 likes respectively on release day it definitely has the potential to be a major player at the box office as October rolls around.
