Monday Evening Update: The final trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them took charge this past week on Facebook where it padded its already impressive total by a further 65,396 likes. That helped the film to cross the 1.5 million like mark which is rarefied air for non-sequels. Of course the fans of Harry Potter are fuelling much of this buzz and activity online which is beautiful music to Warner Bros. considering how lucrative the Potter franchise was over its 10 year arc. The official Facebook page for Harry Potter is the most liked film page ever on Facebook with over 75 million likes in total so its no wonder that Fantastic Beasts is doing so well prerelease. The studio has a lot at stake with the film with two sequels already in the works and primo Potter-worthy release dates pencilled in for the holiday season in 2018 and 2020. This first film could make or break the budding franchise depending on its box office returns and with such a vocal Potter fanbase with keen critical eyes for how their beloved world will be treated in the prequel it has a very high bar set.
Both Jack Reacher: Never Go Back & Passengers debuted new trailers which were met with solid receptions on Facebook, rising 8% and 20% respectively. While it is reusing the official page from the first film Jack Reacher has doubled its like total since April which is a very good sign for the sequel which indicates that there is a strong chance it will surpass the fortunes of the films film, even if only on opening weekend.
The Space Between Us more than doubled its like count with its latest trailer. Considering that the film was supposed to be released in August it appears as though the extra lead-up and marketing push has really helped its awareness on social media in general which should only help its chances in December.
