Facebook Watch – ‘Jason Bourne’ Sighting

Monday Evening Update: Jason Bourne led all films this past week in new Facebook likes as it added 112,886 new fans to its page.  The big impetus here was its latest trailer which gave it a huge shot in the arm. With a very solid base of older males the Bourne franchise has not been the biggest social media darling in general (similar to Mission Impossible) but with Matt Damon’s return to the role that made him a bona fide  action star and Bourne’s past track return this has massive written all over it.

Me Before You quietly added another 88,787 likes over the week to boost its total to 245,350. Still six weeks from release it already has more pre-release likes than recent female skewing films How To Be Single, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot and Mother’s Day had on the eve of their releases.I believe this has a strong chance of being a surprise hit this Summer.

Angry Birds aimed its way up to 735,316 likes overall, a huge number when you consider that Warcraft, which targets a much older internet-savy audience, has 1.17 million. Also, Angry Birds has seen almost 600,000 new likes in 2016 to less than 300,000 for Warcraft. Many people doubted its appeal to fill seats but it appears to be leveraging its fan-base well and attracting impressive levels of buzz. Its not too far of a stretch to imagine this becoming the highest grossing video game adaptation of all time, a 15 year old mark currently held by Tomb Raider and its $131.17 million. Ironically, the aforementioned Warcraft also has a shot to give both of these films a run for their money for the top spot. After having only one video game adaptation for all of 2015 (Hitman: Agent 47), we now will see three opening over the next two months (Ratchet & Clank debut this upcoming weekend).
