Twenty-five years after introducing audiences to the unforgettable counselors of Camp Firewood, Focus Features is bringing Wet Hot American Summer back to theaters nationwide for a special 25th Anniversary re-release beginning August 14. The limited engagement will run through August 21, with participating theaters offering multiple showtimes throughout the week.
Directed by David Wain and co-written by David Wain and Michael Showalter, the film is widely regarded as one of the most influential cult comedies of all time, introducing audiences to one of the most remarkable comedy ensembles of its generation, featuring Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, Elizabeth Banks, Molly Shannon, Christopher Meloni, Michael Ian Black, Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Ken Marino, Joe Lo Truglio and Michael Showalter. As part of the 25th anniversary celebration, Focus Features is partnering with Street Food Cinema and Alamo Drafthouse to bring fan-focused event screenings and special engagements to audiences.
On Saturday, August 8, 2026, Street Food Cinema, Los Angeles’ largest outdoor movie series, in partnership with Radiant J. Productions and Focus Features, will present the Official Wet Hot American Summer 25th Anniversary Reunion. The evening will bring together fans and original cast members for a celebratory outdoor screening of the film, followed by a live panel discussion featuring writer/director David Wain, Elizabeth Banks, Joe Lo Truglio, and Marguerite Moreau. The event will also include a live performance by the Wet Hot Jam Band, featuring David Wain, Craig Wedren, and members of Middle Aged Dad Jam Band, along with additional surprise guests throughout the evening. Focus Features’ roaming Airstream, the F-Stop, will be on-site offering exclusive Wet Hot American Summer merchandise available only at the event. As was foretold, on August 17th, Alamo Drafthouse will welcome Camp Firewood fans for special 25th anniversary parties at ten locations nationwide. Each ticket includes a one-of-a-kind 25th anniversary t-shirt, a very red headband, and a themed menu that promises more than canned vegetables.
