Pathé’s world-famous Royal Tuschinski theater opened the doors of its renovated Grand Hall yesterday. With a renewed look and improved comfort, the cinema icon has received an upgrade that emphasizes the theater’s historic character. During the renovation—which began in May—the original grandeur of the Great Hall has been brought to life. The carpeting has been completely renewed, and all seats have been replaced by carefully designed armchairs and loveseats. The historic balconies have been repainted, and an old painting has been reconstructed in a specific location as an ode to the theater’s heritage. In addition, the ceiling underwent a thorough restoration in which the plasterwork was renewed, and the lighting has switched to modern LED technology. This technology offers various mood colors that subtly enhance the unique ambiance of the surroundings.
Since its opening in 1921, the Royal Tuschinski Theatre has established itself as a jewel of architectural styles. Influences from Art Deco, Jugendstil, and the Amsterdam School come together here in a unique space that has enchanted visitors from home and abroad for over a century. The theater was named the ICTA EMEA Classic Cinema of the Year 2020, crowned the most beautiful cinema in the world by Time Out Magazine 2021 and named a 2021 Boxoffice Blue Ribbon cinema. In 2025, it was added to the prestigious list of Treasures of European Film Culture by the European Film Academy. For Pathé, preserving the unique character of Tuschinski remains a lasting priority. In recent years, various renovations have been carried out, such as the renewal of the other auditoriums in 2019 and 2020, the thorough restoration of the facade in 2024, and the addition of Bar Abraham.
