Vue and Barco are celebrating several major milestones as they approach the one-year anniversary of EPIC by Vue, the premium large format experience built around Barco’s groundbreaking HDR by Barco projection. Almost a year on from opening the first EPIC by Vue screen at Vue Nottingham, the format has expanded to 14 sites and 15 screens across Vue’s European estate, including Amsterdam in the Netherlands, Milan and Silea in Italy, and Bristol Castleford, Islington and Leicester Square in the UK.
EPIC has proved particularly popular with cinemagoers, surpassing 400,000 admissions in less than a year and with repeat visits at twice the rate of other premium large format experiences across Vue’s circuit. Comprising the latest advancements in sight and sound, EPIC features HDR by Barco projection and a Dolby Atmos sound-system. Vue plans to open more than 60 EPIC screens across its estate. To mark the milestones and celebrate the success of EPIC, Vue and Barco have released a ‘Behind The Scenes’ film, created by 1983 Creative, showing the making of the EPIC brand sizzle video.
Tim Richards, Vue’s chief executive officer and founder, said, “The success of EPIC by Vue shows that when we invest in the very best cinema experience, powered by the latest and greatest technology, audiences respond. Our ambition was simple: to create the best possible way to watch a film on the big screen, with the scale, picture quality and sound that makes every visit feel more powerful and immersive. Barco’s technology has been central to delivering that, and the strength of the response gives us great confidence as we continue rolling out EPIC by Vue across Europe.”
Gerwin Damberg, the executive vice president of Barco Cinema, added, “Cinema is at its most powerful when nothing stands between the audience and the story. EPIC by Vue brings that idea to life in a truly compelling way. It creates an experience where the scale, the clarity, and the immersion all serve one purpose: to let the film speak for itself. Our role is not to put technology on display, but to remove every barrier so filmmakers can fully express their vision and audiences can feel every moment as intended. When it works, you stop noticing the system altogether. You are simply inside the film.Together with Vue, we are shaping a new benchmark for premium cinema where the craft leads, the experience feels effortless, and technology quietly does its job in the background. In the end, the ambition is simple: you and the movie, with nothing in between.”
