Burns & Co. Entertainment announced today that the company is partnering with Fathom Entertainment for U.S. theatrical distribution of Jimmy, based on the untold, true story of beloved American icon Jimmy Stewart. Starring KJ Apa as Jimmy Stewart, the movie will open nationwide with a traditional theatrical release beginning on November 6.
The film brings the most transformative years of Jimmy Stewart’s life to the big screen—from winning the Academy Award for Best Actor in The Philadelphia Story to serving as a combat pilot and commander in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Stewart flew 20 missions over Europe, rising to the rank of colonel, only to return home broken and disheartened. And then George Bailey came calling.
Nutt will host Apa and debut Jimmy footage to attendees of CinemaCon during his prepared remarks at the Filmmakers Luncheon Program on April 16. Burns & Co. previously announced an ambitious ‘Give Back’ campaign partnership with Vet Tix, a veteran-led nonprofit organization, as a thank you to those who serve and the loved ones who support them, to see Jimmy in theaters through donated tickets. Burns & Co. hopes through corporate, charitable, and community donations to provide 1 million donated tickets through Vet Tix.
“We are thrilled to partner with Fathom on the U.S. distribution of Jimmy. The Fathom team has the passion and commitment to excellence that we were really looking for in a theatrical partner,” said Director and Producer Aaron Burns. “We are honored that Jimmy will be widely available to audiences across the country, not only because Jimmy is a movie for all audiences, but because it will inspire and remind Americans of the importance of true heroes like Jimmy Stewart in our midst.”
“Fathom Entertainment is thrilled to partner with Burns & Co. and bring Jimmy—the fascinating and inspiring story of the iconic American actor Jimmy Stewart—to the big screen with a wide nationwide theatrical release on November 6. Jimmy is a special film—filled with genuine heart and terrific performances—from a remarkable ensemble cast that brings Hollywood’s golden age and the battlefields of World War II vividly to life,” said Ray Nutt, the chief executive officer of Fathom Entertainment “And for those who fall in love with Jimmy this November, Fathom has something wonderful waiting with It’s a Wonderful Life back in theaters beginning on December 18 for its 80th anniversary.”
Nutt continued, “With Jimmy and the recently announced Wildwood, Fathom is fortifying its position in the theatrical distribution marketplace as a vibrant partner for major Hollywood releases, while maintaining its filmmaker-friendly legacy for indie and genre-based specialty theatrical projects.”
