Long Range Forecast — April 17, 2026
Lee Cronin’s The Mummy | Warner Bros.
Domestic Opening Weekend Range: $10M – $20M
Blumhouse enters the classic monster market with Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, the third feature from Evil Dead Rise writer/director Cronin. Evil Dead Rise performed well for Warner Bros. when it was released in late April 2023, opening to $24.5M en route to a $67.2M domestic total. Though our forecasting panel doesn’t have The Mummy opening that high—in part, because Evil Dead is undoubtedly a stronger brand than The Mummy at this point—it’s still expected to perform serviceably, in line with 2024’s daughter-of-Dracula horror flick Abigail ($10.2M domestic opening) on the low end or pre-pandemic Universal horror film Truth or Dare ($18.6M) on the high end; both of those films, like The Mummy, hit theaters in mid-April.
Blumhouse could use a hit as it releases its first film of 2026. The horror mainstay closed out 2024 strong with Five Nights at Freddy’s ($80M domestic opening) but since then has had only two titles–last year’s Black Phone 2 ($27.3M) and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 ($64M)—open above $20M. That list includes Universal’s Wolf Man, like The Mummy a modern-day retooling of a classic movie monster; that film opened to $10.8M in January 2025 and limped to a domestic total of $20.7M, for a sub-2X multiplier.
Another recent entrant in the monster-horror sub-genre is Warner Bros.’ The Bride!, which eked out $7M when it debuted last month and has been limping along at the box office ever since; it’s doubtful at this point that it will manage a 2x multiplier. Strong reviews and word-of-mouth could help The Mummy move past a perceived “soft” opening, though that word-of-mouth would have to be very, very good for The Mummy to out-earn Warner Bros.’ big horror release from last April. That film, of course, is multiple Oscar-winner Sinners, which opened to $48M and eventually became one of the top ten domestic grossers of the year.
