Long Range Forecast — May 22, 2026

I Love Boosters | NEON

Domestic Opening Weekend Range: $2M – $4M

Sorry to Bother You writer/director Boots Riley is back with I Love Boosters, about a group of shoplifters (led by Keke Palmer’s Corvette) that takes aim at fashion maven Christine Smith (Demi Moore). The genre-bending Riley is a difficult artist to categorize, but we expect his latest to open roughly in line with Sorry to Bother You, which went wide in its second weekend with a 805-theater footprint to the tune of $4.2M and went on to rack up a total domestic theatrical cume of $17.4M. Riley’s been busy of late taking I Love Boosters to various independent theaters (and participating in Neon’s CinemaCon presentation), which should help word of mouth as the film’s release date approaches.

Corporate Retreat | Western Film Services

Domestic Opening Weekend Range: $1M – $2M

Alan Ruck co-stars in this high-concept horror comedy about a corporate retreat turned bloody. The horror-meets-HR concept has been tackled before in films like The Belko Experiment ($4.1M domestic opening) and Joe Lynch’s Mayhem (box office information unavailable), and we expect the base audience of those films to show interest in once again. Other recent May horror releases not based on already-existing IP include last year’s Clown in a Cornfield ($3.6M) and 2024’s In a Violent Nature ($2.1M).

Passenger | Paramount

Domestic Opening Weekend Range: $7M – $10M

Director André Øvredal (Troll Hunters) returns to the big screen with Passenger, in which a young couple witnesses a car accident and is subsequently haunted by a demonic hitchhiker; Melissa Leo co-stars. Our $7M – $10M opening weekend range puts Passenger in line with Øvredal’s 2023 historical horror The Last Voyage of the Demeter ($6.5M) as well as fellow late May horror releases Bring Her Back ($7.1M) and Brightburn ($7.8M). A slight overperformance would put Passenger alongside the similarly urban legend-tinged The Boogeyman, which opened to $12.3M in the first week of June 2023.
