Opening Weekend Forecast: £500,000 – £800,000

Theatrical Total Forecast: £1.5M – £2.5M

U.K.-based cinema advertising company Pearl & Dean has released their predicted opening range for rom-com You, Me & Tuscany, opening in the U.K./Ireland market this weekend.

After a long stint resigned to streaming services, rom-coms have seen a steady run of theatrical success in recent years. Ticket To Paradise (£9.8million), What’s Love Got to Do With It? (£4.9 million), Rye Lane (£1.25 million), and smash hit Anyone But You (£11.8 million) have shown there is a loyal fanbase ready to come out for the big screen romantic experience. We are very hopeful that You, Me and Tuscany can replicate some of this success.

While its trailers offer a paint-by-numbers story and treasure trove of genre tropes, that’s not automatically a bad thing. The combination of gorgeous Tuscan landscapes and equally gorgeous stars Regé-Jean Page and Halle Bailey offers up exactly what romantic comedy fanatics want. Furthermore, there is little else in the female-skewing space until The Devil Wears Prada 2 comes out on 1st May.

Its closest competition comes in the admittedly buzzier The Drama, starring Robert Pattinson and Zendaya. However, where that film promises to be a sensibility-pushing splice of romance, satire, and
pyscho-drama, You, Me & Tuscany is a safer offering for those looking for an easy cinema trip.

The questionable star-power of Page and Bailey is another potential stumbling block. Bailey’s last two roles were in The Little Mermaid, a pre-existing Disney franchise, and the ensemble cast of musical The
Colour Purple
. On the other hand, Page was a white-hot star coming off Netflix’s Bridgerton but has since held only supporting turns in Black Bag, The Gray Man, and Dungeons & Dragons. Starry names are historically a key part of the rom-com equation. Anyone But You featured up-and-comers Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney, while Ticket to Paradise boasted the double-barrelled fire power of George Clooney and Julia Roberts. This is why we have predicted You, Me & Tuscany to be at the lower end of recent hits with £1.5-2.5 million.
