Long Range Forecast — February 27, 2026
Scream 7 | Paramount
Domestic Opening Weekend Range: $20M – $40M
The Scream franchise is coming from a series-high domestic performance with Scream VI, which opened to $44.4M in early March 2023 en route to a $108M domestic haul. A re-tooled casting roster bringing back familiar faces—namely Neve Campbell, who appeared in the fifth film in the franchise (2022’s Scream, a January sleeper hit that opened to $30M) but not Scream VI—should help its visibility with fans and casual moviegoers alike. The fact that Scream 7 is directed and co-written by Kevin Williamson, who who wrote the first, second, and fourth films in the Scream franchise, could add an additional note of curiosity among horror enthusiasts.
That said, Scream 7 marks a departure from the storyline of the prior two films, involving sisters Sam (Melissa Barrera) and Tara (Jenna Ortega), which could hurt its box office momentum—as could the three-year wait between Scream VI and Scream 7, compared to the quick turnaround between Scream (2022) and Scream VI. Positive word-of-mouth could help in chase weeks should Scream 7 open on the lower end of our $20M – $40M predicted debut range.
Other recent horror movies to come out in the back half of February include 2017’s Get Out ($33.3M domestic opening), 2020’s The Invisible Man ($28.2M), and 2025’s The Monkey ($14M).
