Long Range Forecast — March 13, 2026

Undertone | A24

Domestic Opening Weekend Range: $3M – $5M

A24 adds to a horror-heavy Q1 with Undertone, a paranormal thriller about a podcaster haunted by sinister audio recordings. Roughly one month into 2026, the three highest-grossing new releases of the year are all horror titles: Paramount’s Primate ($11.1M domestic opening), 20th Century Studios’ Send Help ($19.1M), and 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple ($12.5M). Absent any household names in its cast—and given the fact that Undertone is the first film from writer/director Ian Tuason—our predicted opening for Undertone is much lower than those three titles, though strong word of mouth could drive business as Q1 comes to a close.

The high-water mark for “horror title by a first-time feature director released by A24 in Q1” remains February 2016’s The Witch, from Robert Eggers, which opened to $8.8M en route to a domestic total of $25.1M. Also an A24 horror title released in Q1, though one by an already-established director, is Ti West’s 2022 slasher X ($4.2 domestic opening, $11.7M domestic gross), released—like Undertone—in the third weekend of March. Looking outside A24 releases, a reasonable comp for Undertone is NEON’s Immaculate ($5.3M domestic opening), also a female-driven horror movie released in March.

Reminders of Him | Universal

Domestic Opening Weekend Range: $10M – $15M

Maika Monroe stars in Reminders of Him, the latest movie adaptation of a novel by It Ends With Us author Colleen Hoover. Released in August 2024 to a $50M debut weekend haul, Sony’s It Ends With Us is currently the highest-grossing movie of the Hooververse, a fact that is unlikely to change with this newest feature. Our $10M – $15M opening range puts Reminders of Him in the realm of Paramount’s Hoover adaptation Regretting You, which opened to $13.6M in October 2025. By dating Reminders of Him in March, Universal has—like Sony and Paramount before it—pinned its hopes on an offpeak month as the best corridor for getting Hoover’s largely female fanbase out to the movies; the film was previously slated for release in February, putting it up against Warner Bros.’ Wuthering Heights adaptation. Previous female-skewing dramas to debut in the month of March include 2017’s Before I Fall ($4.6M domestic opening), 2018’s Midnight Sun ($4M), and 2019’s Five Feet Apart ($13.1M).
