Long Range Forecast — March 27, 2026
They Will Kill You | Warner Bros.
Domestic Opening Weekend Range: $6M – $10M
A housekeeper starts a job in a NYC high-rise that hides a dark secret in They Will Kill You, having its world premiere at SXSW on March 17 prior to a wide theatrical release a week and a half later. This genre counterprogrammer will fill a niche at the end of Q1… but it won’t do so without competition, as Disney/Searchlight’s Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come, also an R-rated genre mashup about a protagonist who must defend herself against a horde of bloodthirsty rich folks, opens the week prior. Our forecasting panel currently has both films following the pattern set by 2019’s Ready Or Not ($8M domestic debut) by opening in the $6M – $10M range; early reviews will give us an idea of which film could potentially break away from the other.
By debuting in March, Ready or Not 2 and They Will Kill You both differ from the first Ready or Not, which came out in August. Other action/horror/comedy blends to open in March include 2017’s The Belko Experiment ($4.1M), 2021’s Nobody ($6.8M), and 2025’s Novocaine ($8.8M).
Long Range Forecast — April 3, 2026
The Drama | A24
Domestic Opening Weekend Range: $15M – $25M
Zendaya and Robert Pattinson co-star in romantic comedy The Drama, which based on the starpower of its leads is expected to overperform compared to other recent films of the same genre. That list includes fellow A24 release Materialists, which made its theatrical bow last summer to $11.3M before topping out domestically at $36.5M. Other rom-coms from the last decade to receive a wide theatrical release include 2025’s Eternity ($3.1M domestic opening); 2024’s The Fall Guy ($27.7M); 2023’s Anyone But You ($6M); 2022’s The Lost City ($30.4M); 2018’s Love, Simon ($11.7M); and 2016’s My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 ($17.8M).
