Opening Weekend Forecast: £10M – £15M

Theatrical Total Forecast: £45M – £55M

Cinema advertising company Pearl & Dean has released their predicted opening range for Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 5, opening in the U.K. and Ireland this weekend.

Pixar’s longest-running and most established franchise, Toy Story has been a box office juggernaut for three decades. The first film grossed £22 million in 1996, with further entries notching £44 million (Toy Story 2), £74 Million (Toy Story 3), and £66 Million (Toy Story 4).

Family films have performed strongly in recent years, supported by the emerging spending power of Gen Alpha. Disney animated sequels have led much of that success, with recent hits including Pixar’s Inside Out 2 (£59 Million) and Walt Disney Animation’s Zootopia 2 (£36 Million) and Moana 2 (£42.7 Million).

The franchise’s 30-year history transcends generations and gives the new film clear four-quadrant appeal, leaving us confident it can deliver a strong box office return.

There are, however, some potential limiting factors for its overall receipts. Toy Story 3 and Toy Story 4 saw a drop in returns between releases, suggesting a modest downward trend. That may have been worsened by the ill-fated and confusingly marketed Lightyear (£10.4 Million) from 2022.

The 2026 family slate is also very strong, with Minions & Monsters and the live-action Moana hitting theaters in the weeks following Toy Story 5‘s debut. That competition could limit the film’s top end. The underperformance of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie in April (scathing reviews aside) suggests that a crowded family market may be lowering the ceiling for each release.

Even so, Toy Story 5 should still be one of 2026’s biggest films, even if it finishes slightly below its predecessors.

Comparators: Toy Story 4 (£66 Million), Inside Out 2 (£59 Million), Zootopia 2 (£36 Million)
