Monday Afternoon Update: A new trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story landed last Friday and propelled it into the top spot on the Facebook for the week. Given the fact that its reusing the main Facebook page of the Star Wars franchise large percentage gains are going to be tough to come by, not to mention the fact that a large share of its fanbase have already liked the page which reduces its growth potential. Still, 70,000+ like gains despite the above is very impressive nonetheless and yet another early sign that the spin-off film is going to be a force to be reckoned with during the holiday season.
A close second this past week on the charts was the first trailer for Bad Santa 2, a sequel to the cult classic dark comedy from 2003. Its 69,610 new likes gave it a 23% total bump in likes which is huge considering that the Facebook page for the film has been around for years.
The other standout on the week was Dunkirk which is still riding the waves created by its first trailer earlier this August. It rose a further 100% this past week to be the largest percentage gainer in the top 10. The film is still a full year from release but following the precedent set by recent Christopher Nolan films this early marketing campaign is par for the course. By comparison, Interstellar had just over 10,000 likes the same distance before release on its way to 361,566 on the Thursday before release.
