Monday Morning Update: To no one’s surprise Suicide Squad led during its final week on the chart as it added over 270,000 new likes. This pushed it firmly ahead of Deadpool‘s Facebook numbers pre-release (3,205,367 likes) but just behind that of Warner Bros’ other superhero tenpole Batman V Superman (3,888,255 likes) for the same distance before open. The final trailer seems to have pushed the film into high gear and the fact that it is performing comparably to Deadpool and Batman V Superman on social media seems to indicate that it has a strong chance of opening closer to $150 million than $100 million which would be a massive win for all involved.
Sausage Party had another strong outing where it rose 73,297 new likes to a hefty 657,954 likes. That is the largest Facebook pre-release total for a Seth Rogen film since Neighbours had 688,984 likes in 2014. There are still a lot of concerns about where the film and if its r-rating will be able to draw older moviegoers despite the animated format but at the very least it seems as though social media users are fully embracing it.
