Twitter Futures: ‘Dunkirk’ continues to impress

Sunday Morning Update: A week after I postulated that Dunkirk would likely fall out of the top 10 for the rest of the next 6-9 months it promptly laughed at that statement by leading all upcoming films in buzz over the past week. Yes its true that its total of 54,435 tweets was the lowest leading weekly total of the year on Twitter but the fact that it has been in the limelight for all of August basically despite being a year from release says a lot about its potential. Interstellar didn’t display this kind of draw when its first teaser trailer debuted a year before its release in December of 2013, so perhaps Warner Bros. is learning from the mistakes Paramount made previously with the space odyssey. At any rate.

Wolverine popped up in the top 10 again thanks largely to speculation about who will replace Hugh Jackman, and plot / set details and rumors. Having played Wolverine for 17 years I’d expect a lot of buzz surrounding this being the last time Hugh Jackman dons the suit and claws. Hard to believe that Russell Crowe was director Bryan Singer’s first choice to play Wolverine back in 2000 for the first X-Men movie, especially since Jackman has gone on to portray the character eight times and is widely regarded as one of the most well known (and liked) comic book characters on the big screen. Ironic since many diehard fans were upset with his casting initially as Jackman stands at 6’2 while Marvel.com lists Wolverine at 5’3.

New trailers for RingsLa La Land, and Blair Witch helped all land in the top 10 with healthy 100% plus jumps, giving them the largest increases on the week.
